Internet Explorer History

I started using IE7 since its beta releases and I never had any major problems so far and on and off I tried Firefox and always decided to use IE. Even when I had a Macbook Pro, one main drawback was lack of IE support and the browsers out there does not render some of my daily visited websites completely…

Anyway, back to what is IE now..I have the history to keep for 20 days (may be default) …but after every 20 days IE automatically deletes all my browsing URLs history but keeps all other stuff in the cache. But the funny thing is; it deletes all the URLs history which are used everyday (most of them are used multiple times a day).. am still wondering why don’t IE just delete the ones which are not used for last 20 days instead of deleting everything for every 20 days..

Now, i just changed my history to 999 days…lets see .. if it at least keeps it for 2 years..

Another Compatibility issue from IE 7

I just found another interesting bug from Internet Explorer 7 (actually it is not a bug, and its just a compatibility issue). When you customize any buttons and/or any other toolbars like Google, Yahoo or MSN Toolbar ( I use Google toolbar with IE, because of the Spell Check support from this, which makes easier for me when I blog on this site) and when I placed them in order so that my menu, standard buttons and the toolbar all can fit in a single line to have more browsing space.

But after placing them in one line and when I click on “Lock the toolbars..” from the right mouse button, then the IE misplaces the toolbar below the menu in a new line…and it never allows me any other buttons to place on the same line; and this works fine on IE6.

Latest Bugs of IE 7

Thought of sharing the new misc bugs that I observed lately with the Internet Explorer 7.

  1. This is something that everyone might have noticed it. The screen flickers when you wanted to write/edit anything from Channel9 using IE7 on VISTA. But the same IE7 on XP works great.

In case if you wanted to see the bug in action, check this AVI video, 1.5 MB as I could not capture a screen shot image.

  2. In Vista, When I go to Full screen mode in IE 7, and when I come out of full-screen mode by pressing F11, after it came to the normal mode, I don’t see the address bar any more. But again this works fine on XP.

Check the following screen shot or the AVI video of 2.3 MB in action for the bug.

  3. Even though this is not a bug, in the same full-screen mode, when you move the cursor to the top, it does not display any menu. Means you must know the keyboard shortcut (F11) to come out of the full-screen mode or you need to click on the tiny full-screen icon at the top right most corner after MSN search.

  4. I observed a misc lines pattern when browsing a particular page from Microsoft. The IE 7 displays some garbage lines when I scrolled down or up using the mouse button. The page that caused the problem is this page from Microsoft. This also happens only on VISTA, but not from XP.

Here is the screen shot for the bug.

  5. Another bug that has been already posted on this blog is when installing IE Developer toolbar on IE7/Vista.

Also, in an un-related topic, when using Aero theme on Vista, and as the top bar for any window dialogs has the trasparent behavior, in the screen capture of the same dialog (alt + print screen) wouldn’t have the title bar at all. Check this screen shot where in we can see that the header bar (Automatic Updates in this case) is not captured. I think it happens for most of the windows which has transparent background for the Window title, for example Control Panel Dialog. I am using BETA1, build 5112. But I dont see this transparent behavior on another system that I have. The trans behaviour seems to be based on Display adapter (One which does not have transparent behavior has Intel 910GL where as it does on ATI FireGL 3100, and I assume due to Aero Glass effect)

IE7 Security in Brief

You can find a brief note about Internet Exploter 7 security in the IE Blog, posted by Dean. Nice to read what steps they were taken to strengthen the security of IE 7.

On the other side, check the following news item if you believe Firefox is more secure than IE:
