SuperFetch In Vista

As we all know, Vista will let us add more memory in the form of USB-based flash drives using a SuperFetch technology. Wondering does any one had any luck or experience in using this. I am sure the folks from Microsoft who has access to early builds of Vista might have tried. We hope to see someone talking on this from MSDN blogs, atleast the Vista team.

Google toolbar Spell Check does not work with IE7

At least on my Vista BETA1 build of Internet Explorer 7 (version 7.0.5112.0) the Google IE toolbar does not function correctly (am not the only one, check IEBlog for more information on the toolbar compatibility).

The only reason I use Google toolbar is to have the spell check support. I thought I will use this toolbar with IE7 so that I can have the spell check support before I submit any news to this site.

The installation went fine and it seemed to work fine in all aspects except when you a have form with some data and you wanted to run a spell check. Once you click on Spell check it does display the list of misspelled keywords. And when I click on this misspelled keywords the toolbar does not display any suggestion box as it does in IE6 or Firefox. Also when you click on Spell check, normally it displays a link with “editing disabled during the spell check and stop spell checking” at the bottom of the toolbar; but this is also not displayed on IE7.

May be Google needs to test it on IE7 beta and release a upgrade. I haven’t tried on XP IE7.

Another Compatibility issue from IE 7

I just found another interesting bug from Internet Explorer 7 (actually it is not a bug, and its just a compatibility issue). When you customize any buttons and/or any other toolbars like Google, Yahoo or MSN Toolbar ( I use Google toolbar with IE, because of the Spell Check support from this, which makes easier for me when I blog on this site) and when I placed them in order so that my menu, standard buttons and the toolbar all can fit in a single line to have more browsing space.

But after placing them in one line and when I click on “Lock the toolbars..” from the right mouse button, then the IE misplaces the toolbar below the menu in a new line…and it never allows me any other buttons to place on the same line; and this works fine on IE6.

Vista will shut out other OSes

As reported by the Inquirer, Vita will support full volume encryption to prevent disk access to files by other operating systems. That means if you have multi-boot OS, the OS other than Vista will not see any files from the hard disk which has Full Control permission.

Check the article for more information on why Vista needs to do this.

IT Admins unhappy about Vista Enterprise Edition SA tie-up

As Microsoft Vista will probably come in at least seven different editions, the enterprise edition seems to be in controversy now.

The Enterprise Edition has the features like Virtual PC and Secure Start up and Full Volume Encryption. To have this, one needs to sign up for Microsoft’s Software Assurance (SA) upgrade and protection program. SA benefits include timely access to software upgrades, 24/7 hot line support, and fee-free cold spares.

However making SA mandatory is making the Enterprise IT admins and users unhappy with whether they can use Enterprise edition or not.
